Shy Boy

Chen Wenling’s work Shy Boy represents an emblem of contemporary Chinese sculptural aesthetics. The childlike red figure, bent forward with legs together and hands clasped in front of the body, conveys a delicate tension between innocence and provocation. Placed in front of the Milan Cathedral, the work creates a powerful dialogue between Western architectural tradition and Eastern modernity, playing on the plasticity of forms and the chromatic intensity typical of the artist. The perfectly glossy surface reflects natural light, amplifying the subject’s vital energy.

The sculpture depicts a stylized nude child with a slender body, in a vivid glossy red, seated in a curled position with a slight smiling expression, on a rounded black base. Placed outdoors, in this version it engages in dialogue with the iconic Gothic setting of the Milan Cathedral.
