On the occasion of Bergamo Arte Fiera 2026, Madeinartgallery presents a curatorial selection that spans generations and languages of Chinese art, from the early historical avant-gardes to the most recent ultra-contemporary research.
The exhibition path begins with Li Shuang and the work Into the Tao, emblematic of an introspective and spiritual inquiry that marked a foundational moment in post-revolutionary Chinese art, and continues with the photographic documentation of the performance One (2015) by Xiao Lu, a key figure in Asian performance art and in the reflection on the body, identity, and political gesture. This historical core is further enriched by a selection of works by Song Yongping, which testify to the dialogue between personal memory and social transformation.
Within the booth, the project develops through the work of master Xing Junqin, whose painterly practice combines formal rigor with expressive tension, and through the refined calligraphies of Chen Wenling, presented in dialogue with the lacquered bronze sculptures from the series Red Memories, where material becomes a vehicle for collective memory and symbolic stratification.
The selection continues with Xu De Qi and his iconic China Girl series, a critical reflection on the female imaginary and the cultural construction of identity, and with the works of Zhang Hong Mei, presented through several cycles: from Memory, to the delicate Manuscript works on paper, to the powerful red altarpiece Chinese Chaos, a visual synthesis of historical tensions and narrative fragmentation.
In the section dedicated to ultra-contemporary artists, Madeinartgallery presents the plexiglass works of Jing Yu, a Shanghai-based artist whose practice explores transparency and urban perception; the works of Qian Wu from the Blue and Green cycles, where color becomes an emotional and mental space; and finally the soft, ethereal canvases of Zang Peng, which conclude the exhibition path with an intimate and suspended form of painting.
This curatorial proposal aims to convey the complexity and vitality of the Chinese art scene, bringing history, memory, and contemporaneity into dialogue through an open exchange between languages and generations.
