Chang An’s Memory

Chang An’s Memory It is a tribute to the historical memory of China’s ancient capital. Zhang Hong Mei reinvents the traditional pictorial language by using geometric abstraction and decorative motifs as a visual metaphor for the cultural stratification of China, with a strong balance between calligraphic abstraction and ornamental impulse.

The composition unfolds on a pure white background, interrupted by vigorous black brushstrokes and red decorative inserts. White fabric fragments emerge diagonally, evoking suspended, almost calligraphic forms that seem to float like memories through time. The composition maintains a verticality reminiscent of the scrolls of traditional Chinese painting.
