Ma Yuan

Ma Yuan

Born in Tianjin in 1959, he is a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese painting. He graduated from the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1982 and later completed the prestigious fifth advanced oil painting program at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1991. Today, he is a professor and Director of the First Studio in the Painting Department of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, where he also supervises master’s students. He is a member of the China Artists Association and the China Oil Painting Society. His artistic path is marked by a deep focus on the landscapes and spiritual traditions of Western China, with a particular interest in Tibetan culture. Through a rich palette and refined technique, he blends realism and symbolism in poetic and contemplative works that reflect on daily life and cultural memory. In 2002, he undertook an academic journey across seven European countries as a guest artist of the Arts Department of the Austrian Chancellery, further expanding his vision and honing a visual language capable of transcending cultural boundaries. His painting invites reflection on time, silence, and the deeper meaning of the human condition.
